With Boston Dynamics, a company that creates mobile robotics, Velodyne Lidar has reached an agreement for a multi-year deal for its lidar sensors.

Boston Dynamics chose Velodyne’s sensors to equip its highly mobile robots, which are equipped to take on the “toughest robotics challenges,” with vision and navigational capabilities.

Mobile robots can function freely and safely without assistance thanks to Velodyne’s lidar sensor technology. For localization, mapping, object classification, and object tracking they offer real-time 3D perceptual data.

With regard to a variety of difficult indoor and outdoor environmental circumstances, including fluctuating temperatures, illumination, and precipitation, Velodyne’s power-efficient sensors support autonomous mobile robots.

“Boston Dynamics has inked a supply deal with Velodyne Lidar, and we are eager to continue working together to expand and extend the capabilities of mobile robots,” says Eric Landry, head of the supply chain at Boston Dynamics.

“Boston Dynamics robots deliver exceptional mobility, dexterity, and intelligence that enable automation in unfamiliar and uncertain circumstances,” says Laura Wrisley, senior vice president of worldwide sales at Velodyne Lidar.

“With lidar sensors from Velodyne, their robots can navigate complex surroundings on their own. In settings ranging from industrial facilities and construction sites to distribution centers and warehouses, they can safely navigate barriers and choose the quickest path to complete crucial tasks.
